Propagation measurement based study on relay networks
verbesserten Kanalmodells.Considering technological bases of next generation wireless systems, it is
expected that systems can provide a variety of coverage requirements to
support ubiquitous communications. To satisfy the requirements, an
innovative idea, integrating network elements with a relaying capability
into cellular networks, is one of the most promising solutions.
The main topic of this dissertation is a propagation measurement based
study on relay networks. The study includes three parts: channel modeling,
performance evaluation, and verification. First of all, an empirical
channel model for relay networks is proposed based on statistical analyses
of measurement data. Then, advanced techniques for the throughput
improvement and interference cancellation are proposed for Multiple Access
Relay Networks (MARN) which are used as an example of relay networks. The
performance of the considered MARN is evaluated for Rayleigh channels, and
then verified for realistic channels, obtained from measurement data and
from the experimental relay channel model as well.
For relay channel modeling, the long-term correlation properties between
links are of crucial importance due to the meshed-network topology.
Although, there is a wide variety of research results for Multiple-Input
Multiple-Output (MIMO) channel modeling available, the characterization of
correlation properties has been significantly simplified or even completely
ignored which motivates this research to be performed. In this
dissertation, the experimental results of the correlation properties of
Large Scale Parameters (LSP) are presented through the analysis on the
real-field measurement data for both the urban and indoor scenarios.
furthermore, the correlation properties have been fully introduced into the
WINNER channel Model (WIM) for realistic relay channel simulations.
As a further contribution of this dissertation, various advanced techniques
are proposed for MARN in the presence of Unknown Interference (UKIF).
Multiple Access Coding (MAC) is introduced as a multiple access technique.
The use of MAC provides the signal separability at the receiver and
improves throughput. Thereafter, high system resource efficiency can be
achieved through relay protocol design. At the receiver, Minimum Mean
Square Error (MMSE)-based spatial filtering is used to suppress UKIF while
preserving multiple Mobile Station (MS)sâ MAC-encoded signal structure.
Furthermore, an error detection aided signal selection technique is
proposed for diversity increasing.
The theoretical system performance with aforementioned techniques is
simulated for Rayleigh channels. Thereafter, realistic channels are
exploited for the performance verification. The gap between the theoretical
performance and the realistic performance indicates that the assumptions
made to the simplified Rayleigh-channels do not fully hold in reality.
For the future relay system design, this work provides valuable information
about the performance evaluation of relay networks in consideration of the
correlation properties between links
Comparisons between cross-section and long-axis-section in the quantification of aneurysmal wall enhancement of fusiform intracranial aneurysms in identifying aneurysmal symptoms
BackgroundTo investigate the quantification of aneurysmal wall enhancement (AWE) in fusiform intracranial aneurysms (FIAs) and to compare AWE parameters based on different sections of FIAs in identifying aneurysm symptoms.MethodsConsecutive patients were prospectively recruited from February 2017 to November 2019. Aneurysm-related symptoms were defined as sentinel headache and oculomotor nerve palsy. All patients underwent high resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) protocol, including both pre and post-contrast imaging. CRstalk (signal intensity of FIAs' wall divided by pituitary infundibulum) was evaluated both in the cross-section (CRstalkâcross) and the long-axis section (CRstalkâlong) of FIAs. Aneurysm characteristics include the maximal diameter of the cross-section (Dmax), the maximal length of the long-axis section (Lmax), location, type, and mural thrombus. The performance of parameters for differentiating symptomatic and asymptomatic FIAs was obtained and compared by a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.ResultsForty-three FIAs were found in 43 patients. Eighteen (41.9%) patients who presented with aneurysmal symptoms were classified in the symptomatic group. In univariate analysis, male sex (P = 0.133), age (P = 0.013), FIAs type (P = 0.167), mural thrombus (P = 0.130), Lmax (P = 0.066), CRstalkâcross (P = 0.027), and CRstalkâlong (P = 0.055) tended to be associated with aneurysmal symptoms. In the cross-section model of multivariate analysis, male (P = 0.038), age (P = 0.018), and CRstalkâcross (P = 0.048) were independently associated with aneurysmal symptoms. In the long-axis section model of multivariate analysis, male (P = 0.040), age (P = 0.010), CRstalkâlong (P = 0.046), and Lmax (P = 0.019) were independently associated with aneurysmal symptoms. In the combination model of multivariate analysis, male (P = 0.027), age (P = 0.011), CRstalkâcross (P = 0.030), and Lmax (P = 0.020) were independently associated with aneurysmal symptoms. CRstalkâcross has the highest accuracy in predicting aneurysmal symptoms (AUC = 0.701). The combination of CRstalkâcross and Lmax exhibited the highest performance in discriminating symptomatic from asymptomatic FIAs (AUC = 0.780).ConclusionAneurysmal wall enhancement is associated with symptomatic FIAs. CRstalkâcross and Lmax were independent risk factors for aneurysmal symptoms. The combination of these two factors may improve the predictive performance of aneurysmal symptoms and may also help to stratify the instability of FIAs in future studies
The distinct role of orbitofrontal and medial prefrontal cortex in encoding impulsive choices in an animal model of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder affecting up to 5% of children worldwide. The lack of understanding of ADHD etiology prevented the development of effective treatment for the disease. Here, using in vivo electrophysiology recordings, we have recorded and analyzed the neuronal encoding of delay discounting behavior in prefrontal and orbitofrontal cortex of spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR). We found that in the presence of rewards, neurons in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) were activated regardless to the value of the rewards and OFC neurons in SHR exhibited significantly higher rates of neuronal discharging towards the presence of rewards. While in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), neurons of SHR responded similarly in the presence of large rewards compared with control rats whereas they displayed higher firing rates towards smaller rewards. In addition, the reward-predicting neurons in the OFC encodes for value of rewards in control animals and they were strongly activated upon receiving a small immediate reinforcer in the SHR whereas the reward-predicting neurons in the mPFC neurons generally did not respond to the value of the rewards. Our study characterized the neuronal discharging patterns of OFC and mPFC neurons in the SHR and the control animals and provided novel insights for further understanding the neuronal basis of ADHD pathology
Presence of qnr gene in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae resistant to ciprofloxacin isolated from pediatric patients in China
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Quinolone resistance in <it>Enterobacteriaceae </it>results mainly from mutations in type II DNA topoisomerase genes and/or changes in the expression of outer membrane and efflux pumps. Several recent studies have indicated that plasmid-mediated resistance mechanisms also play a significant role in fluoroquinolone resistance, and its prevalence is increasing worldwide. In China, the presence of the <it>qnr </it>gene in the clinical isolates of <it>Enterobacteriaceae </it>has been reported, but this transmissible quinolone resistance gene has not been detected in strains isolated singly from pediatric patients. Because quinolones associated with a variety of adverse side effects on children, they are not authorized for pediatric use. This study therefore aimed to investigate the presence of the <it>qnr </it>gene in clinical isolates of <it>E. coli </it>and <it>K. pneumoniae </it>from pediatric patients in China.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A total 213 of non-repetitive clinical isolates resistant to ciprofloxacin from <it>E. coli </it>and <it>K. pneumoniae </it>were collected from hospitalized patients at five children's hospital in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing. The isolates were screened for the plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance genes of <it>qnrA</it>, <it>qnrB</it>, and <it>qnrS </it>by PCR. Transferability was examined by conjugation with the sodium azide-resistant <it>E. coli </it>J53. All <it>qnr</it>-positive were analyzed for clonality by enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC)-PCR.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The study found that 19 ciprofloxacin-resistant clinical isolates of <it>E. coli </it>and <it>K. pneumoniae </it>were positive for the <it>qnr </it>gene, and most of the <it>qnr </it>positive strains were ESBL producers. Conjugation experiments showed that quinolone resitance could be transferred to recipients. Apart from this, different DNA banding patterns were obtained by ERIC-PCR from positive strains, which means that most of them were not clonally related.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>This report on transferable fluoroquinolone resistance due to the <it>qnr </it>gene among <it>E. coli </it>and <it>K. pneumoniae </it>strains indicated that plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance has emerged in pediatric patients in China.</p
Systemic immune-inflammation index is associated with aneurysmal wall enhancement in unruptured intracranial fusiform aneurysms
IntroductionInflammation plays a key role in the progression of intracranial aneurysms. Aneurysmal wall enhancement (AWE) correlates well with inflammatory processes in the aneurysmal wall. Understanding the potential associations between blood inflammatory indices and AWE may aid in the further understanding of intracranial aneurysm pathophysiology.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed 122 patients with intracranial fusiform aneurysms (IFAs) who underwent both high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging and blood laboratory tests. AWE was defined as a contrast ratio of the signal intensity of the aneurysmal wall to that of the pituitary stalk â„ 0.90. The systemic immune-inflammation (SII) index (neutrophils Ă platelets/lymphocytes) was calculated from laboratory data and dichotomized based on whether or not the IFA had AWE. Aneurysmal symptoms were defined as sentinel headache or oculomotor nerve palsy. Multivariable logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were performed to determine how well the SII index was able to predict AWE and aneurysmal symptoms. Spearmanâs correlation coefficients were used to explore the potential associations between variables.ResultsThis study included 95 patients, of whom 24 (25.3%) presented with AWE. After adjusting for baseline differences in neutrophil to lymphocyte ratios, leukocytes, and neutrophils in the multivariable logistic regression analysis, smoking history (P = 0.002), aneurysmal symptoms (P = 0.047), maximum diameter (P = 0.048), and SII index (P = 0.022) all predicted AWE. The SII index (P = 0.038) was the only independent predictor of aneurysmal symptoms. The receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed that the SII index was able to accurately distinguish IFAs with AWE (area under the curve = 0.746) and aneurysmal symptoms (area under the curve = 0.739).DiscussionAn early elevation in the SII index can independently predict AWE in IFAs and is a potential new biomarker for predicting IFA instability
Dietary Modulation of Gut Microbiota Contributes to Alleviation of Both Genetic and Simple Obesity in Children
Gut microbiota has been implicated as a pivotal contributing factor in diet-related obesity; however, its role in development of disease phenotypes in human genetic obesity such as PraderâWilli syndrome (PWS) remains elusive. In this hospitalized intervention trial with PWS (n = 17) and simple obesity (n = 21) children, a diet rich in non-digestible carbohydrates induced significant weight loss and concomitant structural changes of the gut microbiota together with reduction of serum antigen load and alleviation of inflammation. Co-abundance network analysis of 161 prevalent bacterial draft genomes assembled directly from metagenomic datasets showed relative increase of functional genome groups for acetate production from carbohydrates fermentation. NMR-based metabolomic profiling of urine showed diet-induced overall changes of host metabotypes and identified significantly reduced trimethylamine N-oxide and indoxyl sulfate, host-bacteria co-metabolites known to induce metabolic deteriorations. Specific bacterial genomes that were correlated with urine levels of these detrimental co-metabolites were found to encode enzyme genes for production of their precursors by fermentation of choline or tryptophan in the gut. When transplanted into germ-free mice, the pre-intervention gut microbiota induced higher inflammation and larger adipocytes compared with the post-intervention microbiota from the same volunteer. Our multi-omics-based systems analysis indicates a significant etiological contribution of dysbiotic gut microbiota to both genetic and simple obesity in children, implicating a potentially effective target for alleviation
Preserving The Coding Structure in Relay Transmission in The Presence of Unknown Interference
The primary goal of this paper is to provide a comparative assessment to the two cases where different criteria are used in joint user minimum mean squared error (JUMMSE) spatial filtering in wireless relay networks in the presence of unknown interference. In the relay networks, even though multiple access coding (MAC) has been proposed at the first timeslot to provide the separability of the signals transmitted from the multiple users, and space-time transmission (STT) at the second time-slot to achieve the diversity gain, additional constraint in JUMMSE spatial filtering to preserve the MAC-encoded/ST-encoded signal structure places floor in bit error rate (BER) performance, while imposing no additional constraint places no error floor
